Description

The socks your feet are dreaming about

As I was growing up, my mother was always smothering her chilly feet in thick, comfy socks and toasting her toes near the wood stove or over the old, metal registers. Reminiscent of her favorite comfy socks, I designed this pair of top-down socks as a birthday present to keep her toes nice and warm through our nippy Ohio Spring.

 Included in this download:

  • Toast Your Toes Socks Pattern
  • 4 sizes (S – XL), easily customized

This pattern is great for knitters that already know the basics of knitting, purling, increasing, decreasing, knitting in the round, and picking up stitches. The sock is worked top-down and begins with a k1, p1 ribbed cuff that becomes a k3, p1 ribbing for the leg. The k1, p1 ribbing is then resumed on the heel flap for a stretchy fit while the leg ribbing is carried along the top of the foot where it fades into stockinette stitch. The toe decreases along each instep to close with the Kitchener stitch graft. Both socks are worked the same way.

Techniques to enjoy:

  • Top down
  • Ribbing
  • Heel flap
  • Kitchener stitch toe graft
  • Basic increases and decreases (yo, ssk, k2tog)
  • Easily customized for length
  • Looks great with all kinds of yarn!

Recommendations

  • Solid or tonal yarns work best to show off the stitch details; however, variegated yarns or alternating colors can make for an exciting look.

Beginner/Intermediate knitters will enjoy expanding their knowledge with basic sock construction techniques and using dpns.

Experienced knitters will find this to be a quick, easy knit.
