Description
New to Cables? no problem
On a recent trip to the Scottish Highlands, my husband and I hiked to the lookout atthe top of Struie Hill. Bordered by rolling slopes of purple heather and feathery ferns, the rocky path led to a breathtaking view of Dornoch Firth. This scarf reminds me of that wonderful view: the winding path, the purple sides of Struie Hill, and the jewel-like waters of Dornoch Firth, home to salmon, seals, and even dolphins!
Included in this download:
- Struie Hill Scarf Pattern
- Walk-through instructions for no-cut-color change
- Written AND charted instructions
- Video reference link for special techniques
This scarf starts and ends with 4 stitches fewer than the repeating pattern calls for to help keep the ends from flaring. The increases and decreases used to accomplish this are worked in the first and last repeats. Otherwise, the body of the scarf consists of only one repeating pattern that is bordered by garter stitch on either side. When changing colors, it is a good idea to carry the old color up the back or side as you go (unless you like weaving in a million ends!). Instructions for carrying yarn up the back or side can be found in the pattern notes.
Techniques to enjoy:
- Right and left leaning cables (4 stitches)
- Basic increases and decreases (yo, ssk, k2tog, sk2psso)
- Eyelet lace
- Garter stitch
- Make 1 right/left increases
- Easily customized for length or color changes
Recommendations
- Solid or tonal yarns work best to show off the stitch details; however, variegated yarns can make for an exciting look.
